A New Chapter for Benin Flying Labs

With deep gratitude, we bid farewell to Benin Flying Labs, which is departing the Flying Labs Network. Since they joined the Network in 2020, the team has been dedicated to building an environment in Benin where robotics, AI, and drone technology drive positive social change. Through their expertise in cartography, remote sensing, and data analysis, they have made significant contributions to addressing key challenges in agriculture, environment, public health, and climate action, ensuring that data-driven solutions support informed decision-making.

Benin Flying Labs has led impactful projects across multiple sectors. Among their most remarkable projects was the development of a transit corridor to resolve conflicts between herders and farmers. They also undertook a mapping of the sacred Kpassè Forest, helping preserve an area of deep cultural and environmental significance. Another innovative initiative, the GIS-Cemetery Project, introduced a much-needed tool for cemetery management, demonstrating the diverse applications of geospatial technology.

Beyond their technical achievements, Benin Flying Labs has been a strong advocate for youth education and empowerment, inspiring the next generation of innovators. Their drone and data certification training programs strengthened local capacity, equipping participants with essential skills for drone data collection and analysis and opening up new employment opportunities for Benin’s youth in fields such as drone operations, topography, and cartography. Memorably, they hosted the first National Cartography and Robotics Competition in 2021, which aimed to encourage children's creative vision of the world while familiarizing them with the cartographic representation of their environment.

The contributions of the departing Benin Flying Labs team leave a lasting impact, and we extend our best wishes for their future endeavors. 

As Benin Flying Labs exits the Network, the country license for Benin is now available for application by other organizations or companies interested in carrying forward this mission. For arising opportunities for collaboration in the meantime, Togo Flying Labs has the expertise to support a wide range of projects. We look forward to seeing how drone, data, and AI technology in Benin continues to evolve!

C’est avec une profonde gratitude que nous tournons une page avec Benin Flying Labs, qui quitte aujourd’hui le réseau Flying Labs. Depuis son intégration au réseau en 2020, l'équipe s'est engagée à créer un environnement au Bénin où la robotique, l'IA et la technologie des drones favorisent un changement social positif. Grâce à leur expertise en cartographie, télédétection et analyse de données, ils ont apporté une contribution significative à la résolution de défis majeurs dans les domaines de l’agriculture, de l’environnement, de la santé publique et de l’action climatique, garantissant que les solutions basées sur les données soutiennent une prise de décision éclairée.

Benin Flying Labs a mené des projets d'impact dans plusieurs secteurs. Parmi leurs initiatives les plus remarquables figure le développement d’un corridor de transit pour résoudre les conflits entre éleveurs et agriculteurs. L’équipe a également réalisé une cartographie de la forêt sacrée de Kpassè, contribuant ainsi à la préservation d’un site d’une grande importance culturelle et environnementale. Une autre initiative innovante, le projet SIG-Cimetière, a introduit un outil essentiel pour la gestion des cimetières, démontrant ainsi les diverses applications de la technologie géospatiale.

Au-delà des réalisations techniques, Benin Flying Labs a été un fervent défenseur de l’éducation et de l’autonomisation des jeunes, inspirant la prochaine génération d’innovateurs. Leurs programmes de formation et de certification en drones et données ont renforcé les capacités locales, dotant les participants de compétences essentielles pour la collecte et l'analyse de données par drone, ouvrant ainsi de nouvelles opportunités d’emploi pour la jeunesse béninoise dans des domaines tels que l’exploitation de drones, la topographie et la cartographie. En 2021, ils ont organisé la toute première Compétition Nationale de Cartographie et de Robotique, qui visait à encourager la vision créative des enfants tout en les familiarisant avec la représentation cartographique de leur environnement.

Les contributions de l’équipe de Benin Flying Labs laissent un impact durable, et nous leur adressons nos meilleurs vœux pour la suite de leurs projets.

Avec le départ de Benin Flying Labs du réseau, la licence nationale pour le Bénin est désormais disponible pour toute organisation ou entreprise souhaitant poursuivre cette mission. Si des opportunités de collaboration se présentent entre-temps, Togo Flying Labs dispose de l'expertise nécessaire pour soutenir un large éventail de projets.
