Learn more about the collective quantitative and qualitative impact of the Flying Labs Network

How we measure impact

Diversity is the Flying Labs Network’s greatest strength. We embrace and celebrate it in its different forms, including our diversity of:

  • Expertise, experience, and capacity
  • Contexts, needs, and priorities
  • Challenges – both unique and shared

This diversity informs how we monitor and evaluate our work. Our approach is flexible, applying different strategies depending on the goals, sectors, and activities of each Flying Labs. As Flying Labs work with various stakeholders, from local farmers and government officials to community members and young children, our methodologies need to reflect the diversity of our target groups as well. They range from online and offline surveys and questionnaires to interviews and group discussions, and we use easily accessible tools to collect our impact data, such as Google Forms, survey apps, spreadsheets, and custom templates.

What we aim to achieve

The long-term impact of the Flying Labs Network revolves around building more resilient and sustainable communities by using emerging technologies such as drones, drone data, and AI to tackle local challenges in a more responsible, inclusive, and ethical way. Learn more about what we do here

We measure immediate and short-term outcomes of our activities using key outcome indicators such as the number of training sessions held, professionals trained, stakeholders engaged, and ecosystem activities organized.

How we contribute to systems-level change

To create dialogue, change mindsets, and understand the broader impact of our work, we also collect stories of changes from our Flying Labs members, local stakeholders, partners, and community members. Behind every number shared, there is always a story. By sharing these stories, we aim to capture diverse perspectives on the changes brought about by the application of emerging technologies in local contexts. We also aim to create more visibility for local expertise and create space for more open dialogue among stakeholders to improve the regulation of these technologies.
