We’re proud to share that Costa Rica Flying Labs has been featured in the World Economic Forum’s newly published white paper, Advanced Air Mobility: Paving the Way to Responsible Implementation.
The white paper, released on 16 June 2025, sets out 11 guiding principles to help industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders responsibly implement advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies. These principles emphasize innovation, safety, public trust, and inclusive collaboration — values we champion in our own work at Costa Rica Flying Labs.
Costa Rica Flying Labs is presented in the white paper as a standout example of drone deployment for social good, particularly in proactive environmental monitoring. In partnership with Guardian del Bosque, we aimed our Turning Data into Action project at protecting sensitive ecosystems, monitoring vital water resources, and championing sustainable development. We delivered high‑frequency, high‑resolution environmental data — overcoming the limitations of traditional manual methods — while cultivating local capacity and stewardship. This epitomizes the report’s vision of equitable, community‑led AAM in action.
By training local staff to pilot drones and interpret the resulting data, the initiative inspired a sense of ownership and built technical capabilities within the community itself. This model emphasized that effective environmental monitoring is not just about technology deployment but about creating a lasting, locally managed ecosystem of skills and knowledge.
