Dr. Umar Shahbaz Khan

Dr Umar Shahbaz Khan is a distinguished academic and innovator in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence, with a career spanning over 18 years across academia, research, and technology commercialization. He is currently serving as Professor at NUST and Project Director of the National Centre of Robotics and Automation (NCRA), Pakistan, where he leads groundbreaking initiatives to advance robotics, automation, and AI-driven solutions for industry and society.

He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Liverpool, UK, with pioneering research on ground penetrating radar data processing. Recognized with the President’s Pride of Performance Award (2024), he has successfully secured and led multi-million-dollar national R&D projects, including those in prosthetics, AgriTech, smart manufacturing, and defence robotics.

As a prolific researcher, he has authored over 100 high-impact publications for journals and conferences, holds multiple patents and copyrights, and has supervised PhD and MS scholars contributing to Pakistan’s scientific ecosystem. Dr Khan has also co-founded two startups.

Driven by his vision for indigenous technological advancement, Dr Khan continues to champion innovation, capacity building, and industry-academia collaboration to shape Pakistan’s future in Robotics and AI.
