October 15th, 2025
From September 24–26, Zimbabwe Flying Labs had the privilege of participating in Girls in Aviation Day in Uganda. Spearheaded by African leaders in aviation, the event was dedicated to inspiring and empowering young women to pursue careers in aviation and STEM. Representing our team were Tinodaishe and George, who delivered an engaging robotics presentation and mentorship sessions to bright minds.
Showcasing Robotics in Aviation
Our session introduced participants to the exciting world of robotics, highlighting its applications in aviation and the many career opportunities available in STEM. Using basic robotics kits, we demonstrated how innovation and technology connect with real-world aviation needs. The hands-on demonstrations sparked curiosity, while the interactive Q&A allowed students to explore their ideas and ask bold questions about their future in STEM.

The presentation reached over 100 girls aged 13–18, representing different schools and backgrounds. Their enthusiasm was remarkable, and the feedback underscored a strong interest in continuing to learn about robotics and other STEM fields. For many, it was their first time seeing how robotics can link directly to aviation, opening up possibilities they had not imagined before.

Beyond inspiring students, the event created valuable opportunities to network with regional educators, aviation professionals, and STEM advocates. These connections opened doors to potential collaborations for future training programs and cross-border initiatives, strengthening Zimbabwe Flying Labs’ role as a key player in advancing STEM education across Africa.

Reflections & Outcomes
The experience reinforced our commitment to youth empowerment through technology and innovation. We were able to:
- Spark curiosity and excitement in robotics and aviation.
- Showcase Zimbabwe Flying Labs’ dedication to building STEM pathways for young Africans.
- Identify new opportunities for regional partnerships in STEM education.

Girls in Aviation Day in Uganda was a reminder of the transformative power of exposure and mentorship. By bringing robotics to life, Zimbabwe Flying Labs is helping shape a future where more young women confidently pursue careers in aviation, robotics, and STEM.
