Following a powerful Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake in Vigan City, renowned for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian architectures, Philippines Flying Labs with Council of Engineering Consultants of the Philippines (CECOPHIL) consultants from SRDP Consulting Inc, AMH Philippines, and ESCA Incorporated created a team of geologist and engineering consultants to assess the post-earthquake damage to ancestral houses, government facilities, and infrastructure. The objective was to evaluate the destruction's extent and devise a restoration plan crucial for preserving cultural heritage and ensuring safety for residents and tourists in this historic city. This problem statement highlights the urgent need to address the earthquake's impact on Vigan City's iconic structures and civic amenities.

The use of cutting-edge drone technology played a pivotal role in the project's success. The remote assessment capabilities of drones not only improved the efficiency of data collection but also increased the safety of the evaluation teams, as they could conduct assessments without exposing themselves to potential hazards. This novel approach allowed for a more comprehensive understanding of the extent of structural damage and geohazards, which, in turn, facilitated well-informed decisions in real time. The successful integration of drone technology underscores the project's forward-looking approach to disaster management and heritage preservation, setting a remarkable example for similar initiatives in the future.

Going forward, this case study can prepare Vigan City to ensure it remains a vibrant and culturally rich destination. The assessments enable informed decision-making, improve safety, promote cultural heritage, boost the local economy, and enhance community resilience in the future.

The project team comprised Vigan City Government Officials, Philippines Flying Labs, and Council of Engineering Consultants of the Philippines (CECOPHIL) consultants from SRDP Consulting Inc., AMH Philippines, and ESCA Incorporated.
