August 7th, 2025

This November, South Africa Flying Labs and QP Drone Tech are thrilled to host the 4th edition of the Southern African Drones, AI and GIS for Disaster Risk Management Conference and Workshop. Co-organized with WeRobotics and Esri, this year’s gathering will take place in KwaZulu-Natal and promises to be one of our most dynamic and impactful events yet.
As disasters become more complex and climate-related risks escalate, the need for innovative, data-driven solutions is more urgent than ever. This conference brings together a wide range of experts and practitioners — disaster managers, technologists, researchers, policy makers, and community leaders — to explore how drone technology, artificial intelligence, and geospatial data can be applied to reduce risk and save lives.
Last year’s conference was a melting pot of innovation, collaboration, and thought-provoking discussions. The video below showcases our top highlights, and you can read more about the stakeholders that came together, the conversations and activities that took place, and the people who made it all possible in this blog post.

What sets this year’s edition apart is its strong grounding in global frameworks and local relevance. The conference is shaped by the priorities of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and aligned with the Early Warnings for All initiative.
Over the course of three days, attendees will engage in practical workshops, technology demonstrations, and collaborative sessions designed to share knowledge, build capacity, and nurture partnerships. The conference will also contribute to a regional roadmap that supports integrated, tech-enabled approaches to disaster resilience.
We warmly invite participation from:
- National Disaster Management Agencies (NDMAs)
- Geospatial professionals and enthusiasts
- Local civil society organizations (NGOs, NPOs, development organizations, etc.)
- Academic researchers and students
- Private sector leaders focused on climate, insurance, and ESG.
