Drone-Based Traffic Monitoring Training in Bhutan

Participants received training in drone operations, traffic surveillance, regulatory compliance, incident response, and data management.

May 2nd, 2025

Bhutan Flying Labs, in collaboration with GovTech Bhutan, successfully delivered a month-long, in-person training focused on drone-based traffic monitoring in Thimphu, Bhutan. The initiative supported SDGS 9, 11, 16, and 17 and marked a major step forward in integrating drone technology into public safety and law enforcement practices. The training led to the development of policy recommendations aimed at improving traffic monitoring regulations and integrating drone technology more effectively into national frameworks. A key outcome was establishing a multi-agency drone task force to enhance inter-ministerial and cross-border coordination on drone-based initiatives. As a next step, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal plans to launch a web-based drone registration portal and implement updated UAS regulations to strengthen compliance and streamline drone operations.
