How we contribute to the Network

Discover why and how we share and collaborate

"Alone we go fast, together we go far"

While each country is unique, the challenges countries across Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific face are often similar: addressing perennial floods, improving smallholder farming, raising STEM awareness, monitoring land degradation, improving urban environments and more.

We are more than a Network. We are a community of local changemakers and leaders who contribute globally, far beyond the borders of our countries. We are guided by our mantra "Alone we go fast, together we go far". Hear from some of our members what they love most about being part of the Network.

Sharing and Collaboration

Sharing and collaboration are the key values of our Network. As part of our Network's governance model, we have specific criteria on what sharing and collaboration means to us. Each Flying Labs' contribution is evaluated annually. Flying Labs who do not share and collaborate potentially won't see their licenses renewed. Learn more here on the requirements to be part of the Network.

Public Sharing

As integral part of our activities, we document our work to publicly share our experiences and learnings. We do so in a variety of formats including blog posts, webinars, technical use cases, story maps, conferences, workshops and more. Learn more here on our activities. We also contribute to white papers, learning reports, studies, scientific papers, etc. You can find a selection of joint learning resources on WeRobotics' Resource page.

Internal Sharing & Collaboration

Coming together with other Flying Labs to share, learn from each other, collaborate and complement each other's experiences are key reasons why new Flying Labs join the Network and existing ones stay in the Network.

We share and collaborate in a multitude of formats to accommodate for our cultures and strengths. Formats include internal webinars, formal and informal online sessions, written resources such as workflows, guidelines, etc.

Retreats, Trainings & Events

While most of our interactions are online, we love to meet up in person at least once a year. We do so either regionally or globally in our retreats. We also come together for train the trainer trainings and support each other's events.

  • 2023 Latam regional retreat
  • Flying Labs Certification training
  • 2023 Southern African Regional retreat
  • 2023 Asia Regional retreat
  • 2023 Western African Regional retreat
  • Drone Data Train the Trainer Southern Africa

In October 2022, Flying Labs from Africa, Asia and Latin America and WeRobotics met up in Nairobi, Kenya for an in-person retreat. The retreat had one key goal in mind: to shape together the next chapter of the Flying Labs Network.
