Eswatini Flying Labs Coordinator/GIS Lead

Sibusiso Ginindza is a licensed drone pilot and leads geospatial operations for the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in Eswatini. His expertise in UAV technology and GIS has been pivotal in strengthening the country’s Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS). Ginindza’s role involves integrating advanced geospatial solutions to enhance disaster preparedness, response, and mitigation efforts. He is the coordinator of Eswatini Flying Labs.

Ginindza has been instrumental in refining hazard mapping methodologies using high-resolution UAV imagery. His work in regions like Lubombo and municipalities such as Manzini and Peaks Peak has transformed how disaster risks are assessed and managed. By employing UAVs, Ginindza has helped develop precise elevation profiles and risk maps that support both emergency response and long-term urban planning.

Beyond his technical acumen, Ginindza fosters strong collaborations with national and international partners, including the World Bank. He contributes to multi-risk profiles and the upcoming launch of Eswatini’s Composite Drought Index. His leadership in these initiatives underscores his commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into local disaster management practices.

Ginindza is also dedicated to capacity-building, training NDMA staff and other stakeholders in GIS and drone operations, ensuring sustainable disaster management capabilities. His innovative approach and collaborative spirit have positioned him as a key figure in Eswatini’s efforts to enhance resilience and safeguard communities from natural hazards.
