Peru Flying Labs Webinar
This mission was the first ever successful cargo drone delivery in the Amazon Rainforest.

Two weeks ago WeRobotics hosted a webinar focused on Peru Flying Labs, where Patrick Meier and our Peru Flying Labs Coordinator Juan Bergelund presented the recent mission in Peru this past December. This mission was the first ever successful cargo drone delivery in the Amazon Rainforest, and will hopefully help pave the road forward in drone based cargo delivery in the region. Patrick gave a detailed overview of the mission, what its purpose was, what went wrong, and how the challenges were solved. One of the key lessons learned that Patrick spoke about in detail was how the price of a drone is not nearly as relevant as its appropriateness for the task at hand. The example from the mission being that the very costly drone brought in from North America failed to work at all, while the much cheaper drone already present in Peru successfully completed the missions.
Patrick also spoke about further drone delivery tests in the Amazon Rainforest (including a successful trial that happened a few days before the webinar), as well as the Zika mosquito release project that Peru Flying Labs will be involved in. At the end of the webinar, Patrick fielded questions from the audience on sustainability, evaluation, funding, and the sharing of non-successes in the humanitarian sector.
