With robotics and AI technologies advancing at an exponential rate, new opportunities have emerged for governments, development organizations, research centres, and private companies to obtain real-time, high-resolution and actionable data. Around the world, the Flying Labs network has become the tip of the spear for communities to learn how they can harness the power of technology for social impact.

Today, we’re thrilled to welcome the Sierra Leone Flying Labs to the network. A consortium of passionate robotics enthusiasts, the Sierra Leone Flying Labs will build local capacity to implement robotics and AI solutions that solve challenges and create new jobs in their communities. The team will organize hands-on drone hardware and software trainings, workshops for drone pilots, and participate in emergency UAV response, among other activities.

Through their platform, the Sierra Leone Flying Labs team also intends to:

  • Use their strategic partnerships to advocate for drone legislation, regulations and policies that promote the safe and responsible use of drones in Sierra Leone;
  • Raise awareness of how robotics can be used in various social good applications; and
  • Contribute to the global conversation on robotics technologies by sharing their unique Sierra Leonean experiences.
