Dominican Republic Flying Labs & Itla Students Develop Innovative Projects In Mechatronics Using Drone Technology

The use of drones in aerial robotics has evolved significantly, and there are many opportunities to develop initiatives that can support different industries, including agriculture, logistics, engineering, infrastructure, surveillance, security, and many others.

Mechatronics in practice

Drones are a great example of mechatronics in practice. They operate through an intricate web of interconnected systems that rely on multiple disciplines to communicate and function as designed. The culmination of different technological advances in the fundamental mechatronic fields (electrical, computer, mechanical, and control engineering) births the remarkable integration of the modern drone. 

Several pioneering institutions have joined forces because of the significant relationship between drones and mechatronics. DR Flying Labs, the Drone Innovation Center, the Innovation Laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank Group (BIDLab), and the Santo Domingo Cyber Park are lending our support to budding minds at the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA). Through an immersive internship program, these students gain hands-on experience developing projects using mechatronics and drone technology, allowing their inventive spirits to flourish.

Student projects propelling progress.

Within the nurturing environment of this innovative hub, the students are soaring to new heights with their ingenious projects. Two groups of students carried out two particularly noteworthy endeavors. The first was the design of a Surface Cleaning System using a Drone DJI M600 PRO, and the other was the design of a Long-lasting Complementary Battery System for Drones.

The Surface Cleaning System project allowed using the DJI M600 PRO to clean the exterior surfaces of buildings, such as walls and windows, optimally and efficiently, reducing the risks inherent to traditional cleaning methods. 

The students had the opportunity to outline their ideas and apply the knowledge they acquired in mechatronics at ITLA. The Drone Innovation Center was the workspace where they could bring these visions to life, setting a new standard for innovation.

Brimming with ingenuity, these projects underscore the potential of drones in enhancing how companies and businesses operate, with reduced costs and improved productivity. The commercial landscape is on the brink of a transformative shift, with drones offering unprecedented opportunities for the present and future.

El uso de drones en robótica aérea ha evolucionado significativamente y existen muchas oportunidades para desarrollar iniciativas que pueden apoyar diferentes industrias, incluyendo la agricultura, logística, ingeniería, infraestructura, vigilancia, seguridad y muchos otros.

Mecatrónica en práctica

Los drones son un excelente ejemplo de mecatrónica en acción. Operan a través de una compleja red de sistemas interconectados que dependen de múltiples disciplinas para comunicarse y funcionar según lo diseñado. La culminación de diferentes avances tecnológicos en los campos mecatrónicos fundamentales (ingeniería eléctrica, informática, mecánica y de control) da lugar a la integración notable del dron moderno.

Varias instituciones pioneras han unido fuerzas debido a la significativa relación entre drones y mecatrónica. DR Flying Labs, el Centro de Innovación de Drones, el Laboratorio de Innovación del Grupo Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BIDLab) y el Parque Cibernético de Santo Domingo están brindando nuestro apoyo a las mentes emergentes en el Instituto Tecnológico de las Américas (ITLA). A través de un programa de pasantías inmersivo, estos estudiantes adquieren experiencia práctica desarrollando proyectos usando mecatrónica y tecnología de drones, permitiendo que sus espíritus inventivos florezcan.

Proyectos estudiantiles impulsando el progreso

Dentro del entorno enriquecedor de este innovador centro, los estudiantes están alcanzando nuevas alturas con sus ingeniosos proyectos. Dos grupos de estudiantes llevaron a cabo dos empresas particularmente notables. El primero fue el diseño de un Sistema de Limpieza de Superficies utilizando un Drone DJI M600 PRO, y el otro fue el diseño de un Sistema de Batería Complementaria de Larga Duración para Drones.

El proyecto del Sistema de Limpieza de Superficies permitió usar el DJI M600 PRO para limpiar las superficies exteriores de edificios, como paredes y ventanas, de manera óptima y eficiente, reduciendo los riesgos inherentes a los métodos de limpieza tradicionales.

Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de esbozar sus ideas y aplicar los conocimientos que adquirieron en mecatrónica en ITLA. El Centro de Innovación de Drones fue el espacio de trabajo donde pudieron dar vida a estas visiones, estableciendo un nuevo estándar para la innovación.

Rebosantes de ingenio, estos proyectos subrayan el potencial de los drones para mejorar la forma en que operan las empresas, con costos reducidos y una productividad mejorada.
