Building Local Capacity with the University of Zimbabwe Drone Club
Platforms like these are necessary to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical, community-focused applications of drone technology.

At Zimbabwe Flying Labs, one of our primary goals is to build local capacity, develop Zimbabwe's technology ecosystem, and create opportunities for social good. Recently, our team had the privilege of speaking with 30 members of the University of Zimbabwe Drone Club, sharing insights on drone training through our Precision Drone Training School, industry-specific applications, use cases, and the Civil Aviation Remote Pilot Regulations (SI 271 of 2018).
During this engaging session, we explored the current landscape of the drone industry, covering essential aspects such as services, hardware, and software. It became clear that to truly build local capacity, we need platforms like these to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical, community-focused applications of drone technology.
By sharing experiences with the students, we encourage them to use drone technology to address real-world challenges, guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach empowers students to not only learn about drones but to leverage their skills and knowledge for social impact—whether through developing innovative software with AI integration or designing drone solutions for pressing community needs.
We are excited about the potential for further conversations and collaborations with the next generation of technology leaders. Together, let’s advance Zimbabwe’s drone technology ecosystem and drive sustainable solutions for our communities.
