Engaging with STEM activities at a young age opens the door to become tomorrow's movers and shakers. Young learners with a strong STEM foundation will play an integral role in the nation's global competitiveness. It is essential to provide the right tools to the youth to succeed in STEM. Technologies like drones provide young learners with valuable opportunities to think differently and become innovative developers of solutions.

The first Bangladesh Flying Labs program, "First Drone Flying Experience," was held on January 29th and mainly focused on creating drone awareness for young learners between 7 and 15. Held at the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, the University of Dhaka, Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, director general of the National Museum of Science and Technology, inaugurated the program by flying festoons and the National Flag of Bangladesh using drones. Mr. Chowdhury was very impressed by Flying Labs and WeRobotics and assured us that the National Museum of Science and Technology would support Bangladesh Flying Labs' activities.

A total of 28 students participated in this program, including 12 girls and 16 boys. Because empowering women and promoting gender equity is crucial to accelerating SDG 5, the program focused on maintaining the learners’ gender balance. The students received hands-on training to operate drones and impressed those present by flying the drones by themselves. The program was so lively; we were amazed at their interest and curiosity. An adequate number of drones ensured the one-to-one engagement of young learners. Professional drone pilots, volunteers, and core members of Bangladesh Flying Labs were the program trainers. Eight commercial drones were used, including Mavic Pro 2, Mavic Air 2, Mavic Air 1, Mavic Mini, Spark, Kolibri Hellfire, and FPV Drone. Two FPV drone flyers demonstrated the operation of FPV drones.

The STEM skills that these young learners learned in this creative and exciting program create more enthusiasm in them, and they expressed their willingness to join the future events of Bangladesh Flying Labs. Thanks to all the participants, drone pilots, and last but not least, WeRobotics. We look forward to our next training program for young learners.
