Neelam Thapa Magar
Coordination & Research Lead
Neelam oversees NFL’s amalgamation of disaster and technology innovation projects and leads strategic management of project resources, research, reporting, and documentation. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human and Natural Resources Studies from Kathmandu University School of Arts. After she joined NFL in 2019, she has been involved in various projects pertaining to agriculture, climate change impacts, disaster risk reduction and management in the urban ecosystem, and data visualization through digital platforms. At NFL, she works with a diverse team of application developers, geomatics engineers, graphic designers, and thematic research experts to generate technology-based map products and publications.
Her interest in human-environment relations intrigued her to conduct her dissertation on sustainable seed management practices of an indigenous community in the rural hilly belt of Nepal resulting in one of the key findings on challenges faced by farmers with access to adequate agricultural information. Building on this research, Neelam led coordination for the establishment of a climate change management information system and agrometeorological information centers in the rural municipalities of western Nepal, a technology-driven project undertaken in 2021. Her contributions to relevant research, system quality assurance, and dissemination of tailored information packages to rural farmers through a digital medium in coordination with the project team have been vital in its successful implementation. Also, in just about three years of her engagement at Nepal Flying Labs, she has delivered effective liaison with a wide range of stakeholders including government bodies at the local level, humanitarian organizations, community groups, and private entities.
