Our first year in the Flying Labs Network was marked primarily by learning and training activities aimed at conducting drone flights safely and effectively. This was crucial, given the specific scopes of our interdisciplinary team. As part of these activities, we participated in a training session to operate the Agras T40 drone—an agricultural drone designed for the targeted application of agronomic products.

In November 2023, two members of the Mexico Flying Labs team dedicated a cumulative 12 hours over four days to this comprehensive training. We shared sessions with students and academics from Chapingo University, Mexico and Uruguay’s Catholic University within the framework of the collaborative project "Bilateral Cooperation for the Development of Decision-making Models for Agriculture."

Our training curriculum included theoretical learning, where we delved into the technical, safety, and operational details of this specific drone model. We also had a chance to watch the drone in action in Chapingo University’s experimental field, where our final practical test involved performing a pre-flight safety check and navigating the drone through hypothetical obstacles above the field. We were certainly evaluated for our theoretical learning as well, which consisted of an online test in DJI’s official training platform. The Agras T40 drone on the ground.

At Mexico Flying Labs, we work for the preservation of the environment, and recognizing the potential of the Agras T40, we aim to contribute to pesticide-free agroecological practices.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chapingo University for graciously opening their classrooms and fields for our training endeavors. The unwavering support of the Agricultural Mechanical Engineering Department played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this training experience.

As we navigate the skies and push the boundaries of innovation, we remain dedicated to leveraging technology for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions in collaboration with like-minded partners.
