On the eve of the double celebration of the National Youth Day in Cameroon and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Cameroon Flying Labs offered to bring the young orphans of the Good Shepherd Orphanage a smile and dream. During a visit that lasted the whole morning, the Cameroon Flying Labs introduced these young orphans from the suburbs of Yaoundé to drone technology.

About twenty young people attended the exhibitions, take-offs, and landings of a few drones, including the Parrot Anafi, DJI Mavic 2 Pro, DJI Phantom 4 V2 Pro, and DJI Tello Edu. For the occasion, the Cameroon Flying Labs team deployed state-of-the-art equipment, including half a dozen drones, supports, and beaconing for take-off and landing of drones, giving the small courtyard at the orphanage an appealing look. Faced with the curiosity of the young residents, the Cameroon Flying Labs team happily participated in the question-and-answer game. One of the key points of this meeting was the real-time immersion of the young orphans in a few aerial photography missions.

According to Cameroon Flying Labs Coordinator André Junior Bidjogo Bessala, this meeting aimed to get the young orphans interested in drone technology, familiarise them with its advantages, and share the available opportunities provided by Cameroon Flying Labs. A goal almost reached if we look at the feedback and enthusiasm shown by the young residents.

This meeting, rich in colours and emotions, ended with donations from the Cameroon Flying Labs and a photo shoot. We also learned lessons from this activity. Indeed, with their diverse origins and particular stories, young orphans have empathy, resilience, and exceptional curiosity. This makes them very willing to learn and adept at acquiring drone piloting skills. Also, such activity creates enthusiasm and expectations among young people that it is important to plan support activities afterward to maintain this passion.

In its mission to promote drone technology to contribute to sustainable development, the Cameroon Flying Labs plans other visits in the coming days across the country further to arouse the passion for drones among young people and encourage their full integration into this sector.
